Boughton Engineering has taken a significant step forward in its Net Zero programme with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art solar plant at its assembly facility and headquarters in Wolverhampton. This move is part of a broader initiative that includes transitioning to electric forklift trucks and installing LED lighting throughout its factory and offices. These efforts are set to yield impressive environmental benefits.
Environmental Impact
The new measures will result in an annual reduction of 33 tonnes of CO2e emissions. Over the system's lifetime, this reduction is equivalent to:
- 1,100,000 fewer car kilometers driven
- 730 fewer long-haul flights
- Planting 6,500 trees
First Day Success
On its first day of operation, which happened to be sunny, the facility impressively ran 100% on the new solar plant. This milestone underscores Boughton's commitment to sustainable practices and marks a significant achievement in its Net Zero journey.
Leading the Way
As Boughton continues to invest in eco-friendly technologies and practices, it sets a benchmark for other companies in the industry. The transition to electric forklift trucks and the comprehensive installation of LED lighting not only reduce carbon emissions but also enhance energy efficiency and operational cost savings.
"At Boughton Engineering, we are dedicated to making meaningful changes that contribute to a sustainable future," said Richard Skan, Group Managing Director. "The successful launch of our solar plant and other green initiatives exemplifies our commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.”
